At the age as a young adult, the mind of a college student is quite different from that of a school student.
The fact that performing under pressure and with rampant ever increasing competition to achieve merits are crucial for the student to pave a path for the career and future.
A real time example is the tendency of scoring exceptionally well in some subjects while barely scoring the passing percentage in the others.
When the same student’s academic track is closely measured, compared and tallied the results leave us astounded.
The same child would have scored similar marks and grades while in school at all subjects and the difference between the scores were hardly visible.
However, the situation is different when the same student is at college.
A well-known practice of students clearing their subjects in compartments or also having backlogs over many years beyond the specified course duration is found and the same is attributed to a simple fact that the student has not acquired adequate knowledge to score efficiently, but surprisingly the problem is elsewhere.
The reason for this to predominantly occur is because of the fact that the student is disinterested in the teacher or lecturer and not the subject.
The subject becomes difficult because the teacher or lecturer is indifferent towards the student, this is the opinion of many students when questioned and recorded.
Added to this is that many parents treat their children as adults and give them the freedom of choice, yet are unable to positively influence and monitor the activities of the child.
The child has the ample liberty to make a wrong choice and by the act of nature the parent always comes forward to defend the child yet accuse the society or the college at any situation.
This mindset of the parent is observed and inculcated by the children for the rest of their lives.
These seemingly common, silly and innocent factors are never paid attention to during the development of the student, yet the synchronising effect of all these factors combined together at various intervals provide ample reason to the student to rebel against everybody including the self, thereby again drastically effecting the performance and impacting the social image that the teenager during these years carries and portrays in everyday life.
Another factor which influences the child at this age is the concept of being self-sufficient and be capable of fending for themselves and many parents are also pushing their children towards a generation of becoming independent decision makers and also sometimes financially independent.
Added to this is also another pressure that the child faces is that it needs to be job worthy and secure a good career in life.
Also another major aspect of choosing the right career or job adds to the existing confusions prevalent in the student’s mind.
The fear of not being able to secure a good job or career makes the student more disinterested with the ways of life and often succumbs to many of these pressures aforesaid.
ODC provides the students with ample choices of career to choose from and also encourages the student while facing failure at times and further coping with the pressures faced in everyday life.
Our modules are well laid out to suit students from all economic and cultural backgrounds and as they learn the skills of handling their lives, these modules also bring fun into their seemingly bored lives.
